The clock
In Beginner, a match lasts 20 minutes. Reinforcements arrive three times, and the last two make the monsters more dangerous: go for the nests and key rooms before 15:05.
In Hard, a match lasts 15 minutes. Reinforcements arrive three times, and the last two make the monsters more dangerous: go for the nests and key rooms before 10:05.
In Nightmare, a match lasts 15 minutes. Reinforcements arrive three times, and the last two make the monsters more dangerous: go for the nests and key rooms before 10:05.
In Chaos, a match lasts 15 minutes. Reinforcements arrive three times, and the last two make the monsters more dangerous: go for the nests and key rooms before 10:05.
Limited-Time Challenge
A timed fight in an octagonal room: the more enemies you defeat, the more chests you earn.
- 6 enemies
×1 Exquisite Relic Chest - 15 enemies
×2 Exquisite Relic Chest - 30 enemies
×3 Exquisite Relic Chest - 60 enemies
×1 Luxurious Ruin Chest - 90 enemies
×2 Luxurious Ruin Chest - 120 enemies
×3 Luxurious Ruin Chest
Tip · when the challenge starts, a portal opens on every player and the guards come out of it, wherever you stand. So gather the whole team first, on the side of the pillar away from the door: the guards arrive in one spot, where area attacks hit them all, and you can step out of the room to heal. Once the challenge is over, interact with the Rift to reach the Idol and claim your reward.
Questions
Are the Lost Sanctum maps random?
No. The Sanctum is not generated on the fly: the game ships 30 hand-made layouts, and each run draws one from the list of its difficulty, 8 in Beginner, 6 in Hard and 7 shared by Nightmare and Chaos. What changes from one run to the next is the content: which chests stand in each room, whether a nest holds an egg, which monster is promoted to boss.
How do I know which layout I am in?
Open the map as soon as you enter: the orange door is the Main Entrance, the blue one the Side Entrance. The direction of the blue door from the orange one names most layouts at once; when two share a direction, the shape of the map and the distance between the doors tell them apart.
Where are the eggs?
In the Egg Nests, 3 or 4 per Nightmare or Chaos layout, always at the same spots, and in some gold key rooms, where a nest stands in 21 to 50 % of runs depending on the room. The egg chance of a room is 15 % in Nightmare and 25 % in Chaos.
What is behind a gold door?
A Legendary Sarcophagus, always, then one of four chest sets: Luxurious Ruin and Exquisite Relic Chests, a Fossil Pile, Ornate Clay Vats, and in one or two of them an Egg Nest. A Gilded Key opens it.
Where is the Sanctum boss?
Nowhere fixed. At most one boss and a few elites (4 in Nightmare, 5 in Chaos) are promoted among the monsters of the run. In Nightmare the boss can drop a Gold Essence and a Honeyglow Starine.
How many keys can I use in a run?
The Black Market sells each key twice per match at most, 150,000 Eggshell Coins for a Gilded Key, and you can bring more: keys are the only loot of the mode you can carry into a run.
